Position Description :

Job Summary:

The Accounts Receivable Supervisor manages the accounts receivable and associated staff for assigned payer(s). This position will also identify, report, and resolve issues to ensure accuracy and timely payment of accounts.


• Evaluates effectiveness of strategies by tracking payer key performance indicators and implementing corrective actions as necessary

• Assists in implementing procedures to standardize and make efficient subordinate staff’s efforts

• Assists in setting priorities to meet the organizations financial goals

• Maintains good working knowledge of payer policies and procedures

• Manages staff productivity to ensure staff stays in compliance with policies and procedures

• Optimizes use of Penn Chart system

• Acquires and maintains a working knowledge of how best the Penn Chart system can be utilized for data management

• Maintains certification to use all applicable features in the Penn Chart system

• Ensures that all staff’s work is evaluated for quality on a regularly scheduled basis using the KPI/QRS documentation procedure. As a part of the process, evaluate staff compliance with established departmental procedures for managing accounts that involve multiple payers, utilization of standard and adhoc reports, problematic accounts, special accounts, and adjustments

• Manage the Escalation reporting process by ensuring the appropriate accounts are being tracked on the Escalation WQ and that the accounts are given priority focus until resolved by payment or denial from payer

• Enforces and adheres to write-off policies when performing contractual and other write-off adjustments

• Ensures all staff’s required educational certifications/completions are in compliance

• Utilizes internal controls and tracking mechanisms in accordance with Penn Medicine Accounting Control Standards

• Supervises a staff of 4-18

• Performs duties in accordance with Penn Medicine and entity values, policies, and procedures

• Other duties as assigned to support the unit, department, entity, and health system organization

Minimum Requirements :

Required Education and Experience:

• H.S. Diploma/GED required

• 3+ years of professional experience in Healthcare Accounts Receivable required

• 1+ years of professional experience managing projects or leading a team required

• Supervisory experience is preferred

Required Skills and Abilities:

• Ability to use Microsoft Excel required

• Ability to use Microsoft Outlook required

• Ability to use Microsoft Word required

• Ability to use Microsoft Access preferred

• In-depth knowledge of payer policies and procedures required

• Must be able to comprehend and interpret management reports required

• Knowledge of ICD and CPT coding required

• Knowledge of computerized billing systems required
