The Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania (HUP) is hiring a Transplant Statistician to work with the Penn Transplant Institute (PTI).

Summary:

  • The Transplant Statistician provides analytic support to the Penn Transplant Institute (PTI) team of administrators, clinicians, researchers, and operational teams focused upon: 1) performing statistical analyses of existing data to support quality/safety/regulatory, operational, and clinical data needs related to the PTI; 2) acting as a liaison between the PTI and Penn Medicine Data and Analytics (Penn DnA) team in the development of a Transplant Database; and 3) providing limited and specific statistical advice to clinician investigators undertaking research projects.

  • The Transplant Statistician will have skills and experience in performing independent statistical analysis, automated data extraction from clinical databases, customization of datasets, merging data from internal and external databases, production of tables and reports, and univariate and multivariable analyses including survival analysis to assess organ program and center outcomes vs. risk adjusted expected outcomes. Must exhibit advanced problem-solving, analytic skills, and significant individual judgment are essential.

Responsibilities:

  • Produces meaningful data and statistical analyses aligned with data needs for transplant quality/safety/regulatory, operations, and transplant outcomes

  • Collaborates with Penn Data and Analytics (Penn DnA) and Penn Transplant Institute in development of a Transplant Database (using Azure Data Bricks or equivalent resource)

  • Collaborate with Penn DnA and PTI leadership in the development of a Transplant Database

  • Partners with individuals from the PTI, cross-functional UPHS clinical and application teams and external organizations and agencies

  • Identifies and resolves data errors and consistencies in verification and validation studies to ensure high data standards throughout the data life cycle

  • May meet with clinical investigators and provide expert input related to the use of appropriate statistical tests, power calculations, and feasibility

Credentials:

Education or Equivalent Experience:

  • Bachelor of Arts or Science (Required)

  • Bachelors in Statistics, Public Health, Computer or Systems Engineering or related field.2+ years Statistical software such as Stata, SPSS, SAS, R, etc. for programming and statistical analyses. Experience in associated coding languages with statistical software as well as developing reproducible analyses and documentation.

  • Master of Arts or Science

  • Masters in Statistics, biostatistics or related discipline3+ years Clinical data management, clinical disease registries, population health or in the medical best practices, managing, cleaning and integrating large, complex databases (specifically SQL databases: SQL queries and SAS.

  • Large set data analysis in complex clinical setting and a general understanding and knowledge of clinical operations.
