Position Description :

Penn Medicine Princeton Health is seeking a per diem Clinical Dietitian to join the team.


• Provides components of care within Registered Dietitian–Clinical Nutritionist scope of practice. Performs nutritional assessments, provides patient and family nutrition education, and performs appropriate follow-up relative to the plan of care. Provides appropriate linkages to other resources and serves as a nutrition resource person for Clinic staff, physicians and patients.


  1. Provides components of care within the Registered Dietitian-Clinical Nutritionist scope of practice for patients . Practices in accordance with the clinical standards/protocols of the Dept. of Nutrition and provides optimal nutrition care.

  2. Performs optimal nutrition care to patients. Providing nutritional assessments/reassessments , conducting through and timely documenting in patient’s medical record. Evaluates each patient’s nutritional status, degree of nutritional risk and potential problems.

  3. Makes recommendations and determines plan of care as to provide optimal nutrition for patients. Evaluates therapeutic goals for relevancy and attainability.

  4. Provides nutritional consultation services based upon referral and/or high-risk criteria.


  1. Provides patient and family education, including hand-outs and verbal instruction. Documents educational assessments and interventions as well as patient comprehension and compliance, according to standards.

  2. Provides follow-up for ongoing nutritional problems and intensive monitoring for high-risk patients, in collaboration with other members of the patient care team.

  3. Identifies and arranges to meet nutrition knowledge needs of staff, including periodic in-servicing of staff on relevant topics.

  4. Provides specialized patient educational sessions on a topical basis, as needed.

  5. Periodically reviews and updates nutrition education materials for use with patients and families. Assures that staff are aware of approved educational materials in stock.

  6. Demonstrates growth in nutrition field. Attends appropriate continuing education programs/in-services to develop/maintain skills and knowledge. Develops and maintains network of professional contacts to facilitate patient referrals and to provide a peer base for informal clinical consultation and knowledge development. Participates in appropriate professional committees within the Nutrition Dept., as designated by Director, Dept. of Nutrition.

  7. Other duties and projects as assigned.

  8. Supports customer service and performance improvement goals of the department; collaborates with other caregivers/staff, within and outside the Department, to develop means of enhancing patient care and service.

  9. Performs work accurately, thoroughly, in a timely manner, and in accordance with departmental and Medical Center standards. Identifies problems and handles/refers them/offers suggestions appropriately.

  10. Maintains a positive approach and positive relationships with others. Supports departmental and Medical Center initiatives and change efforts.

  11. Maintains standards of confidentiality.

  12. Age-Specific Knowledge & Skills – Possesses the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to meet patients’ physical, psychological and social needs with those growth and development levels/patient populations served within the department.

  13. Participates in unit compliance as related to established standards.

  14. Serves as a nutrition resource person for staff and physicians , providing consultation as requested.

Minimum Requirements :



• Completion of four-year degree with B.S. or B.A. in Human Nutrition. R.D. completion or pending.

Related Work Experience

• Two to three years experience as a clinical nutritionist required, to include at least one year of which spent working with OB and/or Pediatric population.


• Maintain updated registration.


• Knowledge of WIC strongly preferred; knowledge of OB and Pediatric HealthStart requirements a plus.

• Bilingual capabilities (English-Spanish) preferred, but not required.

• Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills required, as are patience, flexibility and an ability to handle multiple demands. Professionalism essential. Also required are a customer service orientation, teamwork approach, accuracy, initiative, and organizational/problem-solving skills.
